Unit: Journalism

Day 13

iSearch research projects help document our research process.  Each time we want

to learn or understand an idea or issue, we research to uncover or advance students to identify topics and issues

that they are personally interested in.  The iSearch project is an informal

research paper that guides students through a standard research process.

Students complete a final paper that reports on each research step.

Stage One:     Students identify one topic to research..

                         1)     Brainstorm a list of issues and topics in the world.

                         2)     Brainstorm a list of subtopics.

                         3)     Develop an angled research question to focus research.

                         4)     Identify prior knowledge.

Stage Two:     Students plan research on topic.

                         1)     Research What?           (Definitions, History and Background, Stakeholders, Data and Statistics)

                         2)     Research Where?         (Interviews, Periodicals, Television, and Film)

                         3)     Research Why?            (How will this information help me?)

Stage Three:   Students complete research plan and report on research process.

                         What did you do?

                         What did you find out?

What new information came up that led you somewhere new?

                         How was the process?

Stage Four:     Students organize research and report back findings.

Collect only the final information that you will include in your project.
