Unit: Poetry
Model: My Favoritest Poem
2009 Class Projects: 704, 705, 708
It's really important to develop our personal likes and dislikes in poetry. We want
to write poems in our voice and reading all kinds of poetry can help us find out
what kinds of poems we really love. (And, of course, what kinds we really don't.)
What's your favoritest poem ever?
We are going to produce a short form film project on our most favorite poem. Our
project is inspired by Robert Pinsky's national "My Favorite Poem Project". Students
will learn to respond to poems to ideas and craft of the poem through questions,
personal connections, and informal research.
The project will include:
iSearch Poetry Project:
Step 1: Poetry? (What kind of poetry do you love? What kind of poetry do you hate?)
Step 2: Read a whole mess of poems and respond
Step 3: Collect a group of favorite poems (Anthology)
Step 4: Selecting your most favoritest poem
Proposal: What is your poem? Why?
